Strathmore Value Drug Mart has donated $1,000 to the Strathmore Overnight Shelter.
Customers would buy products from the store and then nominate non-profits to win a thousand dollars.
Gordon Morck from the Strathmore Value Drug Mart explained the process of how the money was given to the shelter.
"It's a program that we have through Value Drug Mart to support community organizations that are deserving of support for the good work that they do in the community, and this year we decided to support the overnight shelter."
The store has been running the program for three years and this is the first year that the overnight shelter was chosen.
Elizabeth Karp from the shelter explained what the money would go towards.
"It helps with our utility bills and food cost, all those things that we have to bring in all our cleaning supplies, and everything like that, so it goes a long way."
The shelter now runs 24/7 and they have seen a rise in use over the years. The organization has also expanded the shelter.
"Me and the operations manager were busy building bunk beds so that we could double our capacity so we wouldn't have to turn anyone down," explained Karp.
